It has been my experience that most guys who are bad in bed just don’t understand how a woman’s body works, and are either too timid or too forceful. Every woman is different, of course, and has a different set of turn-ons, but for all of the emotional aspects of sex, when you’re having sex with someone you care about and who cares for you (which sounds like the case here), then it’s often a physical failure, where too little or too much stimulation makes an orgasm impossible. Or, he’s doing something cringeworthy (kissing badly, groping painfully, talking dirty when you don’t like it) that if it were completely eliminated would no longer interfere with the sexual experience.
If the issue is physical, I’d recommend getting this book, raving about the non-sexual chapters (there’s stuff about everything, such as diet, sleep, building muscle and improving fitness, etc.) and believe me, if he reads it, he will check out the sex chapters. If it’s that he’s doing something wrong, I would just take over and distract him at that point — the out-of-bed equivalent of changing the subject. If you really like him, you’re really going to have to take charge, which means knowing what does and doesn’t turn you on, and steering him in the right direction.
